Composition Program Writing Awards

The annual Composition Program Writing Awards honor excellence in undergraduate writing by offering prizes for thoughtfully crafted essays demonstrating ability to explore a subject’s complexity.

The Ossip Award and the Award for Excellence in Public and Professional Writing Courses

Undergraduates can compete for the Ossip Award for Excellence in Seminar in Composition or the Award for Excellence in Public and Professional Writing. Winners can receive prizes of up to $300. Award submission guidelines and prize-winning essays are available online, along with commentary from the judges.

The Koloc Award

Any student whose progress in Workshop in Composition or Workshop in Composition: ESL has been outstanding may be nominated by his or her teacher for the Koloc Award, named in honor of long-time Director of Advising Fred Koloc. Established in 2000, the Koloc Award provides a student achievement award in the form of a gift certificate for The University Store. Teacher nominations should be submitted with student portfolios following the End-of-Term-Review. Koloc Award submission guidelines and winning essays are available online.
