Biography

Brenda Whitney earned her PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to teaching in the undergraduate curriculum in the Composition and Literature programs, she serves as the assistant director for the Committee for the Evaluation and Advancement of Teaching, which supports new teaching assistants and fellows in the English department.

Her articles have been published in Critical Quarterly, where she currently serves as a conributing editor.

She has taught American Literature to 1860, Emergence of Modern America, Comedy, Introduction to Critical Reading, Forms of Prose, The Dramatic Imagination, American Literary Traditions, Women and Literature, Race and American Fiction, Introduction  to African American Literature, Black Literature, Literature of the Americas, World Literature in English, Literature, Tradition, and the New, Seminar in Composition, Composition and the Image, Freshman Writing Seminar, and General Writing: Women’s Studies.
