Associated with her graduate course in Automating Writing, Dr. Annette Vee hosted four guest speakers via zoom in Fall 2021, sponsored by the Pitt Composition Program. These were informal Q&A sessions focused on automating writing and computational writing and poetics.
Mon, Nov 1: Zach Whalen conducted a workshop for NaNoGenMo. NaNoGenMo is “National Novel Generation Month,” a spinoff of “National Novel Writing Month” (NaNoWriMo). In NaNoGenMo, participants write code and procedures to generate a 50,000 word novel over the course of November.
Mon, Nov 15, 4-5pm ET: Dr. Lillian-Yvonne Bertram – poet, artist, and scholar-educator extraordinaire — did Q&A about their work in computational poetics, particularly in Travesty Generator.
Mon, Nov 29, 2-3pm ET: Computational poet and creative programmer Allison Parrish did a Q&A about her work and teaching in computational poetics.
Mon, Dec 6, 4-5pm ET: Q&A with Janelle Shane, author of You Look Like a Thing and I Love You (Voracious, 2019), a hilarious and smart tour of machine learning and the ridiculousness of AI. Her blog, AIWeirdness, features AI-generated cat names, Halloween costumes, food trucks and superfluous giraffes.
