Pam O'Brien holds degrees/diplomas from Allegheny College, the University of Madrid and Gannon University. She has also worked in many of the subject areas she teaches: grant writing, nonprofit fundraising, public relations, and advertising.

O'Brien has published three chapbooks of poetry, Over 80 of her poems, short stories and articles have appeared in journals, newspapers and the small press. Her writing has won contests and she was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Her full-length poetry collection, The Answer to Each Is the Same, has been published by Dos Madres Press.

She has twice received the College of General Studies Student Choice Award for Excellence in Teaching (2008, 2011), the Career Services Faculty Partner award (2004) and the English Department NTS Faculty award (2001). In 1994, Allegheny College awarded her the Blue Citation, their highest award for service to the College. O’Brien was a 2012 finalist for the Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award.


Pam O'Brien teaches a variety of courses in the Public and Professional Writing (PPW) Certificate where she serves as associate director: Grant and Proposal Writing, Professional Writing in Global Contexts, Public Relations Writing, Persuasive Writing in Advertising and Fundraising, Writing for the Public, and Written Professional Communication. She also teaches and mentors the PPW interns as well as the Writing/Literature interns.
