The Pittsburgh Business Times is looking for an energetic and dynamic reporting intern with a demonstrated aptitude for writing news stories. This paid, full-time internship will run for 10 weeks during the summer.
Successful candidates will have a portfolio of work demonstrating proficiency for news writing, strong communication skills, command of AP style and preferably an interest in business journalism as a career. Candidates should also have experience working with social media and multimedia.
Interns work with press releases, thank-you letters, catalogue content, event programs, brochures, and media kits. For more information, contact Lisa Leibering at 412-456-2696 or by emailing her at leibering@trustarts.org.
Pittsburgh Magazine offers editorial, marketing, and, periodically, photo/video internships.
Internships are unpaid and generally last for 13 weeks. Interns, who normally work 10-20 hours per week, must receive college credit in exchange for their time and are acknowledged in the magazine’s masthead.
Editorial interns support the editorial staff by contributing content, conducting research and verifying information in articles. We expect editorial interns to share ideas for stories, social media and other areas of the magazine. Each semester, we typically hire one-two interns for The 412, our daily blog, one-two interns for our Weddings magazine and blog, one intern for our Home magazine and blog, and one intern for general editorial content. All interns can cross between departments during the semester.
The marketing & events intern assists the magazine with events and event planning, market research, collecting and analyzing data, community outreach, social-media development, mass mailings, sponsor and client outreach and magazine launch preparations.

The Pittsburgh Media Partnership oversees a robust paid internship program (fall, spring, and summer semesters) in which local university students are placed with Partner news outlets for eight weeks. PMP internships are intended to give students with a serious interest in a journalism career — particularly those who are underrepresented in the industry — an opportunity to learn on the job, improve their portfolio and leverage the experience so that they can break into the industry more easily after graduation.
Candidates should be at least 18 and enrolled at one of seven Pittsburgh-area college-level institutions. The academic year internships run for one semester, and interns can work 10 to 15 hours a week for a maximum of 150 hours. Interns are paid $15 per hour. For the summer internship program, students are paid $15/hour, up to 30 hours a week for an eight-week period between late May and early August.

As the in-house magazine for City of Aslyum, Sampsonia Way is devoted to literary freedom of expression and giving voice to persecuted writers. The magazine was named after Sampsonia Way, a street in Pittsburgh that houses exiled writers hosted by City of Asylum. Just as the physical Sampsonia Way provides a home for exiled writers in a literary community, Sampsonia Way aims to create a space in which endangered writers thrive and free literary expression is a valued part of everyday life.
The Pitt English PPW program partners with City of Asylum’s Sampsonia Way to lead a class dedicated to this internship. Under the guidance of professor Tim Maddocks, students create and edit articles, conduct interviews, and manage the magazine’s social media. This class is held in Fall and Spring semesters.
STEM Coding Lab is Pittsburgh's only nonprofit exclusively devoted to providing computer science education to our region's under-resourced youth. We operate primarily as an afterschool program, although we partner with school districts to provide instruction during the school day as well.
Through engaging, hands-on activities, STEM Coding Lab seeks to bring computer science education to elementary and middle school students throughout the region, including in Pittsburgh Public Schools, our local charter schools, community centers, and wherever else there are opportunities to inspire young minds with computer science knowledge.
STEM Coding Lab seeks interns for two positions: Communications & Marketing and K-8 Computer Science Teaching Assistant.
Marketing & Communications Interns objectives include elevating awareness locally of STEM Coding Lab’s work, helping STEM Coding Lab refine its social media strategy, and supporting fundraising and development efforts throughout the Pittsburgh region.
K-8 Teaching Assistant Program Interns objectives include engaging young children with basic computer science concepts and activities. Interns do not need to have computer science expertise, but rather, a commitment to serving youth, as well as an ability to engage K-8 classrooms in a kind, caring manner.
Interns, if successful, also have an opportunity to pursue part-time or full-time employment with STEM Coding Lab.
