"Post-Holocaust Journeys: From the Teaching of Hate to a Pedagogy of Hope" will recount Perl’s experiences working with Austrian teachers for close to 20 years and how she brought that work back to her classrooms in the US. Her presentation will be based on her memoir On Austrian Soil: Teaching Those I was Taught to Hate.

Sondra Perl, Professor Emerita at Lehman College and the CUNY Graduate Center, has worked as a writer, scholar, and college professor for 45 years. Author of six books and many articles, she currently serves as Director of Programs at the Memorial Library, a not for profit organization committed to Holocaust studies and human rights education. A Carnegie Foundation Teacher of the Year, Perl recently received the Conference on College Composition and Communication Exemplar Award given to academics who model the organization’s highest ideals of scholarship, teaching and service to the profession.
